value streams and processes

The value streams and processes dimension defines the activities, workflows, controls and procedures needed to achieve agreed objectives.

Value Streams

A vaule stream is a series of steps an organisation uses to create and deliver products and services to a service consumer.

Identifying and understanding the various value streams an organisation has is critical to improving its overall performance. Structuring activities in the form of value streams provides a clear picture of what it delivers and how. With this clear understanding it is easy to see how efficiency improvemnts can be made. Value stream optimization may include process automation, adoption of new technologies or amending ways of working; all of which are aimed at improved efficiency or an enhanced user experience.

Processes (Practices)

A process is a set of interacting activities that transform inputs into outputs. A process takes one or more defined inputs and turns them into defined outputs. Processes define the sequence of actions and their dependencies. ITIL has a recognised set of processes / practices that provide a structure to many of the service management disciplines. These are detailed in this Service Management Process Model, on the Wiki and within SharePoint.
